AACE: 2017 Meeting Highlights Innovation

AUSTIN, Texas -- Endocrinology's newest digital technologies and breakthroughs will be at the forefront at the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) annual meeting here.

The latest research in endocrinology will be presented Saturday, including studies on immunotherapy gene expression profiling in the management of thyroid cancer and oral therapies for type 2 diabetes management.

The late-breaking oral and poster presentations are not-to-be-missed, followed by a round of "Meet the Experts." Capping off the day, attendees are invited to join the AACE Convocation, and the President's Gala in the evening.

AACE 2017 will feature dozens of intriguing sessions, and over 1,000 poster presentations covering topics that range from the artificial pancreas to transgender medicine.

The meeting kicks off on Wednesday with several pre-meeting sessions and workshops on bone disease, reproductive medicine, and diabetes technology, followed by Satellite Symposia in the evening.

"AACE 2017 in Austin promises to be a stellar program meeting the needs of clinical endocrinologists from the US and across the globe," Reddy said.

"In addition, attendees, as well as those that could not come to Austin, will have the opportunity to obtain additional CME credits online from select sessions from the LIVE meeting," he stated.

A wide-range of plenary sessions will begin Thursday morning, featuring "internationally known clinician-scientists," including the most recent FDA Commissioner , Reddy highlighted.

He also recommended the "Meet the Experts" sessions that will cover topics such as "Personalized Diabetes Management: Cultural Considerations," hosted by Osama Hamdy, MD, PhD, of the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, and Shashank Joshi, MD, of Stanford University in Stanford, Calif.

Yehuda Handelsman, MD, of the Metabolic Institute of America in Tarzana, Calif., and Paul Jellinger, MD, AACE past president, will present "Interpreting Lipid Guidelines: How Low Should You Go?."

Among the symposia sessions on Friday, Reddy recommended one jointly sponsored by AACE and the Sociedad Mexicana de Nutrición y Endocrinologia (). Scheduled topics include heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes (session chair ); innovations in the care of adrenal diseases (session chair ) ; and the latest recommendations for treating metabolic bone disease (session chair ).

"We will close on Sunday with a very enjoyable multi-disciplinary panel discussions focusing on thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal disease," Reddy noted.
