One year ago, Ƶ launched its first-ever educational game center called the Break Room -- "where medicine is all fun and games," as the tagline goes. We launched this section because that educational games can make you a better, happier doctor.
At the time of launch, the Break Room contained not only our beloved Weekly News Quiz, but also our new Wordle-like game Wordosis, which became an instant success and is now nearing 2 million plays.
We wanted to keep the momentum going, so in November 2022 we launched a more challenging, longer-form game called Wordectomy. In Wordectomy, players must attempt to identify a condition by plugging words into a fully redacted description of a condition. Our readers who like a tough challenge have now played Wordectomy half a million times.
We weren't done. In 2023 our content strategy team released Spell Check-Up, which is just what it sounds like -- a game in which the user must identify the correct spelling of a medical word. As demand for this game has grown, we decided to increase the frequency of the game; as of last week, Spell Check-Up is now a daily game that you can access through the Daily Headlines newsletter (click here to sign up).
Make the rounds in the Break Room, and try out something new. Incorporating medical word games into your daily routine can be a fun and effective way to enhance your skills and knowledge.
What Does the Future Hold?
Right now, Wordosis is our only shareable game, and users have shared their Wordosis results thousands of times. We have plans to improve sharing functionality for Wordosis and to add this feature to all of our games.
MedPage Today also plans to introduce leaderboards so that you can compete against friends and colleagues.
If you have an idea for a new game for the Break Room, please feel free to get in touch (at mpt_editorial@everydayhealth.com). We always like to hear from our readers, and we really do take your thoughts and opinions into consideration.
Thank you for reading Ƶ!
