Russell Copelan, MD, is a retired emergency department psychiatrist. He graduated from UCLA medical school with subsequent residency and fellowship training in ED psychiatry from UC Irvine and CU Denver. He is a reviewer for Academic Psychiatry and former consultant to the American Association of Suicidality. He has continued his research on youth anaphylactic suicide with presentations worldwide. The framework for this pioneering work has been published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics In Review. In his Ƶ column, “Suicidologist's Soliloquy,” he advocates for improvement in ED bottlenecks, staff burnout, patient boarding times, and revenue management utilizing competent risk triage design and implementation.
