Presentation

A 16-year-old girl was brought to the ER due to fever, chills, and a diffuse sunburn-like rash that had developed over the past day. On examination, the patient appeared ill with a fever of 104ยฐF (40ยฐC). She was tachycardic and hypotensive. Widespread erythematous blanching macules and patches were seen. Laboratory examination showed leukocytosis, bandemia, elevated blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and elevated creatinine. The patient underwent septoplasty 2 days prior for a deviated septum, and nasal packing was utilized to manage postoperative bleeding.
